Dating from c.1600 and originally built as a hunting lodge, Lulworth Castle was burnt out by fire in 1929.

Working with English Heritage, GHK Architects used archaeological techniques to record the fabric of the Grade I listed building. This, together with archival research, informed our subsequent restoration.

Whilst the exterior of the Castle has been returned to its appearance the day before the fire, the interior has simply been consolidated and conserved. This is presented to the public as a Country House 'undressed' allowing them to clearly see how the house developed from hunting lodge to family seat as Georgian and then Victorian fashion dictated subsequent remodelling.

Our work to Lulworth Castle received a RICS Award 2000 - Building Conservation.
